Marking Advancement in Scoutbook

Whether you are a parent or a den leader, at some point you will probably need to use Scoutbook.org to give credit to a scout for an adventure, an elective, a hike, a campout or volunteer service hours.

While the process for den leaders and parents may be slightly different, they are both similar in many ways. They also changed scoutbook recently, and many of the best videos still use the old scoutbook. The two versions are similar enough that you for most the old scoutbook video can still be useful. We will try to find updated videos as they become available.

Here are a few videos that you might find helpful as you navigate the process of giving credit to your scout(s) for all the things they accomplish.

If you need help logging into scoutbook, visit our page Scoutbook that steps you through the process.

Updating Scoutbook as a Leader

This is a great step by step guide for our leaders on the new scoutbook (as of 2025). It walks you through the process step by step. Can also be useful to parents as many of the steps are the same for parents.

Updating Scoutbook as a Parent

While this uses the old scoutbook it still is useful, just some of the screens have changed. You can also use the Den Leader video above with the new scoutbook because the process is similar with just a few differences.

Adding an Activity
Hiking, Camping, Service Hours

For Den leaders start the video from the beginning. For parents you can skip to 2:23 in the video.

National Park and the Scout Ranger Program

Many of our scout families enjoy trips to National Parks. Did you know your scout can earn a certificate and/or patch while they are at the national park. It is a part of the Resource Stewardship Ranger Program, which is a partnership with the National Park Service and Scouting America.
